Katarina Johnson-Thompson, the Olympic silver medalist, has withdrawn from her first heptathlon competition since the Paris 2012 Games with a minor injury.
Johnson-Thompson, 32, was scheduled to attend the prestigious Gotzis Hypo Meeting in Austria on Saturday and Sunday.
However, the two-time world champion, who suffered a broken leg during training, claimed on Thursday that she is “really gutted” not to compete at the weekend.
In an Instagram post, Johnson-Thompson wrote, “I was really looking forward to competing in my first heptathlon since Paris, especially at Gotzis, because the event is so special.”
I’ve had to make this choice with a heavy heart. Thankfully, I’m not suffering from a serious injury, and I’ll soon be back on track.
