Presenter Zoe Ball reflected on 2025 and revealed her “amazing” upcoming projects after leaving two BBC Radio 2 shows in a year.
After quitting her job at BBC Radio 2, Zoe Ball has opened up about her next steps. After almost six years in charge, the broadcaster abruptly resigned from her position as host of the station’s Breakfast Show in November 2024.
At the time, she was reportedly the BBC’s second-highest paid presenter, earning £950,000, making the decision undoubtedly a difficult one.
Zoe recalled how leaving the show gave her more personal time and assisted her in grieving during what she termed an “interesting” year.
Julia, the mother of the broadcaster, passed away from cancer in April 2024, causing her to take a protracted break from her program.
The 55-year-old revealed on the most recent episode of her and Jo Whiley’s podcast that she and Jo were also going through additional personal struggles.
She acknowledged that it was one of the best jobs she ever had because “I miss it and I miss the audience,” and that she fully acknowledged that.
“But I believe there was other stuff going on before that, not just losing my mother,” but so much had happened since then.
And this year has finally allowed me to deal with my mother’s loss and other issues that I may not otherwise have had the opportunity to deal with.
And for me, “Oh my gosh, you never dealt with this, and you didn’t really deal with that, because you just keep on running,” was an incredible eye-opening experience.
I’m grateful that this year has finally given me some free time for myself because I realize that not everyone can do that; some people just need to keep working and going.
Zoe continued by expressing her gratitude for the special experiences she’s managed to create with her two children since leaving the program, from taking Woody DJ and her daughter off to Ibiza.
The broadcaster also discussed the possibilities that lie ahead with Jo, explaining that leaving the show had given her the opportunity to work on “three amazing “television projects.”
She stated, “I’m really excited about [them],” and then noted that the year has been very reflective. It’s been a year with great benefits for my heart, my soul, and overall quiet.
“I really needed that because life has been quiet.” And I predict that the trend will increase once more next year.
Following her departure from her BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show, where Scott Mills took over, Zoe made her return to the station presenting an afternoon Saturday slot in May 2025.
