It would be ridiculous to say that no Scottish person, under the age of 30, can recall watching the men’s national team compete in a World Cup.
Some may not remember France’s “98-kilts,” Brazil, Craig Burley’s teeth against Norway, and the Morocco debacle. However, it could just as easily have never occurred to some people.
Scotland is now gearing up for a World Cup qualifying campaign that could end a 28-year wait for the finals.
Steve Clarke’s side will be relegated to the United States, Canada, and Mexico next summer, but Greece, Belarus, and Denmark are the only ones available.
They will be there if they win the group, which will consist of six matches over the course of the next two months. They still have a sniff through the play-offs after a close second.
How should Scotland play it in light of this? What strategy would you employ if you were the head coach?
Choose your formation and XI.

The good news comes first. The squad is more powerful than it has in a while.
After lengthy injury layoffs, Aaron Hickey, Ryan Christie, Ben Gannon-Doak, and Lyndon Dykes are back to add to the pool, which also includes Napoli team-mate Billy Gilmour, Andy Robertson, and other seasoned Premier League players like John McGinn and Scott McTominay.
However, there are questions about the team’s shape, the center-back pairing, who leads the line, and who plays in the goal.
