The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 5-1 to move the series score to 1-1.
Yamamoto, a right-hander for Japan, only needed 105 pitches to start his second postseason complete game.
As the Blue Jays made history, Smith led the Dodgers’ offense with three runs batted in (RBI), while Smith had a memorable night.
Game two at Toronto’s Rogers Centre was a pitching duo for extended periods of time, not the free-scoring opener.
In the top of the first inning, Smith gave up Freddie Freeman before Blue Jays starting pitcher Kevin Gausman tied the Dodgers at the plate before striking out.
The Canadians equaled with two runs in the bottom of the third inning when George Springer was scored on a sacrifice by Alejandro Kirk, but the game remained unbroken until the top of the seventh inning when Smith and Max Muncy both lifted Gausman with solo home runs to give the 2024 champions a two-run advantage.
In the top of the eighth inning, the Dodgers scored on a wild pitch before Smith added his third RBI of the evening to make it 5-1.
In game one, the Dodgers’ bullpen had suffered a blow, but Yamamoto was able to give his relievers a night off by pitching all nine innings without giving any late scares.
