Due to concerns over the process, WSL Football was asked to provide video of Tuesday’s Women’s League Cup quarter-final and semi-final draw.
GK Barry, a social media influencer, and Portsmouth midfielder Ella Rutherford, both conducted the draw, which was live on WSL Football’s TikTok page.
After it appeared a ball had been pulled out, then accidentally dropped back in the bag, and then taken back to be used in the draw, where questions were pressed.
The judge present confirmed that the ball, which revealed one of the home teams in the opening semi-final match, had the same number as the one that was first pulled out.
WSL Football confirms that the draw would have been restarted if the same number had not been withdrawn a second time.
One of the participating clubs announced to BBC Sport that it wanted to view the video. It isn’t currently accessible via WSL Football’s official YouTube channel or social media.
Meanwhile, GK Barry’s comment was made during the draw, according to BBC Sport, and WSL Football has sinceapologised to Tottenham.
GK Barry questioned, “What do we think of Tottenham,” as he pulled out a ball with Tottenham’s name on it. – referring to an Arsenal fan’s occasionally sung anti-Spurs chant.
WSL Football is said to have made it clear the comment was inappropriate, and the comment raised questions about the professionalism of the draw.
