Wrexham’s McClean banned after Swansea ‘incident’

James McClean has been banned for three matches following an incident during Wrexham’s defeat at Swansea City last Friday.

Videos circulated on social media after the game appearing to show McClean flicking a boot towards Ronald when the Swansea winger was lying on the pitch.

The Football Association (FA) says McClean, 36, has admitted a charge of violent conduct.

“The player’s behaviour around the 94th minute wasn’t seen by the match officials at the time, but it was caught on video, and the FA alleged that it constitutes violent conduct”, an FA statement said.

“James McClean subsequently admitted the charge against him and accepted the standard penalty for violent conduct”.

McClean has started Wrexham’s past seven matches with New Zealand international left-back Liberato Cacace missing through injury.

“Wrexham can confirm James McClean will be suspended for three matches, following an incident in the match against Swansea City”, the Red Dragons said on their website.
