Lewis O’Brien has been signed by Wrexham from Nottingham Forest for an undisclosed fee until the end of the 2027-28 season.

Following an impressive loan spell at Swansea City in the second half of last season, the 26-year-old was linked with a number of Championship clubs this summer.

Swansea had a desire to succeed O’Brien, but their chances always seemed a little iffy due to the potential financial resources.

Instead, Wrexham has triumphed over the former Huddersfield Town player.

O’Brien said, “To be here is great, but it’s been a long time.”

“The past few years have been a whirlwind for me and my family, but it’s great to sign a long-term contract and find a place to call home,” said one of the couple.

O’Brien joined the City Ground after being promoted to the Premier League in 2022, but he has only made 17 appearances since then. He has one year left on his Forest contract.

He played a key role for Swansea’s recovery from relegation danger by 16 games after signing on loan in the middle of the season to finish 11th.

O’Brien left Forest for a loan spell at Los Angeles FC, Middlesbrough, and DC United.

Phil Parkinson, the manager of Wrexham, expressed his delight at Lewis’ arrival. He will make a great addition to the group because he has a lot of experience at this level. We’re looking forward to working with him.

As Wrexham prepares for life in the Championship after three successive promotions, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney own the company, and O’Brien’s signing is yet another statement of intent.
