Wolves turned down a £50 million offer for striker Jorgen Strand Larsen for Newcastle United.
Although Eddie Howe’s side may still make an improved offer, Wolves do not want to sell the Norway international, according to reports from BBC Sport.
After Callum Wilson left last month and his contract expired, Newcastle are looking for a center-forward.
The Bees now anticipate the DR Congo forward to stay, with Brentford also having two bids rejected for Yoane Wissa.
However, Wolves’ position demonstrates the difficulty that the Magpies must overcome before the transfer window closes on September 1 to persuade a club to sell a significant player.
Vitor Pereira, who also sold Brazil’s Matheus Cunha to Manchester United in the summer, said: “He is a very important player for us.
“I haven’t spoken to him about it,” he said. He is devoted to the team. He is committed, as I observe him in his training. He is a fighter and enjoys winning.
In Alexander Isak’s ongoing absence from the team, Anthony Gordon appears to be ready to face champions Liverpool on Monday night.
After making his wish to join Liverpool, the Sweden striker is training with his team-mates, but Newcastle do not anticipate their “conditions” of sale being fulfilled in the run-up to the season.
The club is in a race against time to find one striker, let alone two, after having already had offers for Wissa and Strand Larsen rejected, and that is before Liverpool can make another bid.
