In his 6-5 victory over Si Jiahui at the Shanghai Masters, showboating Kyren Wilson wasted the chance to become a famous player when he made a no-look shot on the target.

Six hundred consecutive breaks were included in the final-16 tie, tying the record for the most in a best-of-11 match against Judd Trump and Neil Robertson, and Mark Selby and Robertson will face off in 2020.

Wilson made the crucial frame of 97, but he chose to miss the black and shoot no-look.

The Englishman claimed it wouldn’t have changed his approach if he had known he was about to break the record.

Wilson remarked, “I did the silly no-look thing.”

I think the sport is “exploding up” out there, particularly in China, and a lot of it involves doing things a little differently. You must have some fun, too. That kind of thing is appreciated by the audience.

Even if I knew the record, there is no way I would have just rolled that black in. It continues to be about making changes. In snooker, we are entering a more contemporary era.
