The Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP)’s) decision to zone its presidential campaign to the South and keep its national seat in the North is a clear victory, according to Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory, and Lere Olayinka, his senior special assistant for public communication and social media.
In a statement released on Monday, Olayinka claimed the party’s decision to not zone the South for the 2023 elections caused its electoral misfortune.
“Now that the party has realized its mistake in 2022 and has chosen to do what they said, three years later, have they not been redeemed?”
“Remember that the FCT Minister and the G-5 had urged the PDP’s national chairman to leave the area and that Senator Iyorchia Ayu, who is also from the North, must resign to make way for a National Chairman from the South, who must now be in office.”
However, Atiku and his organization supported him and he insisted on not resigning. The party’s electoral misfortune in 2023, followed by instability following the elections, was the outcome, according to Olayinka.
PDP Zones 2027 Presidential Slot To South Says North Retains Party Chairmanship, UPDATED
The PDP’s aide added that the minister had realized his error and that it was still too late for the party to make a decision.
Has PDP not recovered from its own vomit, he asked? They are sadly aware of the truth. Take the chairmanship to the South if you want to become president, ike said. However, the PDP lost because they refused to accept the two and instead said they had to take them.
They are correcting their error in 2025 and have already made it known. However, is it not already too late, given that the only way to justify zoning is when the South ends its eight years and the North receives its presidency in 2031?
The PDP positioned the party’s presidential spot in the southern region of the nation on Monday.
Additionally, the party urged North to keep the chairmanship position.
As party leaders convened in Abuja to discuss their National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, this decision was made.
Umar Damagum has also been named as the NEC’s substantive national chairman.
