Why does the US keep blocking UN Security Council resolutions on Gaza?

Washington ratifies Israel’s veto six times to protect it.

Another UN Security Council resolution calls for a ceasefire in Gaza and for Israel to outlaw all restrictions on humanitarian aid entry.

The Security Council is tasked with maintaining international order and security in accordance with the UN charter.

It has 15 members, each with the authority to veto resolutions, 10 elected and 5 permanent.

The resolution was supported by the 10 elected members, along with the United Kingdom, France, Russia, and China.

The US, Israel’s largest ally, turned down the offer, saying it did not support Hamas or recognize Israel’s right to defend itself.

Does this indicate that the UN Security Council is unable to fulfill its mandate?
