What deals might be made as the Women’s Super League transfer window opens on Friday?

Clubs are rummaging for players to help them win the season.

Chelsea have a six-year grip on the title, Manchester City are attempting to break that record, Manchester United are entering the Women’s Champions League knockout stages for the first time, and Liverpool are still looking for their first WSL title win this season.

Increasing interest in contract renewals

Some of the biggest deals that were signed this month could result in significant contract renewals for a number of well-known players.

Georgia Stanway, 26, has attracted a lot of attention, with Arsenal one of the parties who have discussed the midfielder. She has a contract until the end of the summer, but she has the option to extend it. She could also sign a pre-contract agreement in January to join another club in the summer.

Ella Toone, a second England midfielder, is leaving Manchester United for good in July. This month, she will start negotiating with other clubs outside the WSL.

Top scorer Khadija Shaw for Manchester City, 28 years old, has been in touch with positive aspects of a contract extension.

Emily Fox joins Katie McCabe, Kim Little, and Stina Blackstenius in agreeing to a deal that runs out this summer, according to European champions Arsenal.

With only six months left on Sam Kerr, Millie Bright, and Lucy Bronze’s contracts, Chelsea are also scheduled to hold negotiations.

Rachel Daly, the 34-year-old captain for Aston Villa, is also out of contract this summer. Will the club then negotiate a new deal with the club?

Additionally, Paris St-Germain has reportedly expressed interest in Everton forward Kelly Gago, who turns 27 on January. Can the Toffees keep hold of her given that she is valued at £500,000?

Depending on the outcome of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) salary negotiations, US striker Trinity Rodman may be moving from Washington Spirit.

Maika Hamano could leave the Blues to join Tottenham on loan, while Chelsea are also keeping an eye on Rodman’s situation. Sjoeke Nusken, a midfielder from Germany, may want to play more games in other countries, while Catarina Macario, a US forward, has interest from the NWSL.

What is required by clubs?

The decision to extend manager Renee Slegers’ contract, which expires this summer, is Arsenal’s biggest one. They have been interested in Hammarby full-back Smilla Holmberg, but they also need a goalkeeper.

Aston Villa are interested in signing a Japanese international, but they may not have the funds after a successful summer.

However, Brighton are looking for more options in midfield and a replacement for Michelle Agyemang, who is currently recovering from injury.

Chelsea will always be willing to spend a lot, and they will always have attacking options in mind as well as Rodman. They could also provide more defense-related depth.

Everton were very busy over the summer, but the owners have shown they are willing to spend money if they want to improve their squad, so they are likely to be looking for new players.

Manager Rick Passmoor has made it clear that Leicester City wants to sign experienced WSL players. They are considering full-backs, and center-back is a priority position.

In other games, Liverpool are expected to be very active in order to leave the bottom of the table. Gareth Taylor will be looking to add players to their already thin squad as a result of their £1 million summer sale of Olivia Smith. They have been linked with BK Hacken winger Alice Bergstrom, and they already have a full-back on the cards.

How active the London City Lionesses are will be interesting. Jocelyn Precheur was fired last month, but Michele Kang, a wealthy businesswoman, is behind them. The best young players are the target.

Shaw’s renewal of his contract may be the most important thing Manchester City will have to do, but they might also add some players to help them win the title race.

Rivals Manchester United have been busy, with two signings already in the pipeline, and they want more. According to a report released by BBC Sport last month, a central midfielder has been a target for some time. They are keeping track of the circumstances of a number of well-known players in that capacity.

Three additions have been confirmed for Tottenham, which adds to their successful opening day. They also intend to sign Chelsea’s Hamano on loan.

What agreements have already been made?

Lea Schuller and Hanna Lundkvist have both made signings, making their debuts in the summer for Manchester United.

Hinata Miyazawa, a midfielder from Japan, agreed to a new, long-term deal that will keep her at United until 2029.

Alex Greenwood, Rebecca Knaak, and full-back Kerstin Casparij have also signed new contracts with Manchester City.

In addition, Tottenham announced in November that they had signed Norwegian international Signe Gaupset from SK Brann. Hanna Wijk and Matilda Nilden, both from BK Hacken, have also been added.
