Viewers are struggling to work out the identity of Claudia Winkleman’s ‘Secret Traitor’ ahead of Wednesday’s reveal
The first few episodes of The Traitors saw viewers struggling to work out the identity of a ‘Secret Traitor’ as part of the show’s new twist. Claudia announced the update in the first episode and told viewers: “I’m also going to pick a Secret Traitor and nobody will know who that is – not the Traitors and not even you. It’s naughty, isn’t it?”
Last week, fans were left with a cliffhanger after it was revealed existing Traitors, Rachel and Stephen, would soon find out who the mysterious Secret Traitor is. They had just “won back power” by picking nine potential victims to murder on a family tree of contestants.

But some eagle-eyed viewers think they have already figured out who the Secret Traitor is before the big reveal.
Several have drawn comparisons between the handwriting on the murder list and the contestants’ voting chalkboard, while others think some of the comments made point towards certain players being the red-cloaked figure.
Those who have been ruled out include Maz, James and Reece after featuring on the murder list.
Harriet
Harriet was the ringleader behind Hugo’s banishment after his over-the-top reaction to Ben’s murder – but some fans believe she could be the Secret Traitor because she must’ve known his true identity.
On spin-off show Uncloaked, viewers noticed Harriet’s portrait was hung on the wall next to Traitors Stephen and Rachel.
The crime writer also describes herself as the “secret barrister” a lot after she revealed her plans to conceal her former profession.
Fans have also spotted a book called Who’s Who 1934 in the bookcase, and the author is a former barrister. Her handwriting also looks similar to that on the murder list.
Ell
Fans have been quick to point out that Ellie and Ross knew each other before the show, with some wondering if the pair are in a relationship. The psychologist also said the words “Secret Traitor” to Ross in a conversation.
Some viewers think you can spot blonde hair under the red cloak, while others have pointed out a green glow in Claudia’s hair when she first selects the Secret Traitor – the colour both Ellie and Harriet were wearing in the first episode.
Amanda
Retired police detective Amanda raised eyebrows when she said traitor Rachel was in her “inner circle”.
She also said her strategy was “to exude being a Faithful.”
Some even believe the Who’s Who 1934 book could be a code, with 1,9,3,4 referencing the corresponding letters of the alphabet, A, I, C, D which could stand for DCI A (Amanda).
Meanwhile, she said James “had a tough night” when she shouldn’t have known he was on the murder list.
And tellingly, she told traitor Stephen: “I don’t have the weight of being a Traitor on my shoulders.”
Jade
She’s come under fire from Amanda for looking nervous but fans have counted the timing of Claudia’s round-table walk, predicting it stopped at Jade.
She was the only contestant seen telling Claudia she didn’t want to be a Traitor – but in her entry interview, she didn’t say she wanted to be a Faithful.
Jade’s handwriting is another close match for the murder list.
Roxy
Roxy has been at the forefront of the first few episodes after it was revealed she was the daughter of Judy, the first person to be banished.
Roxy became frustrated left the castle, and some fans believe it might be because she knew for certain that her mum was a Faithful.
Judy later said on Uncloaked: “Roxy gave me a look, and I thought, ‘She must be a Traitor’.”
Her handwriting is also the best fit of them all when the letters on the murder list and voting chalkboard are compared.
Sam
Attention quicky turned to Sam after a comment he made after the opening challenge. Relieved that he wasn’t up for murder, he said he wanted to “stay under the radar”’.
In reaction, many penned on X: “Why would Sam be worried about a “radar” #TheTraitors”.
Another added: “The secret traitor is Sam. So many clues have been given #TheTraitors.”
A third wrote: “Three people who I think are potentially the secret traitor: Amanda, Sam or Fiona #TheTraitors”.
Fiona
Hugo, Rachel and Steven speculated that the Secret Traitor could be Fiona, a local government officer from Swansea.
Fiona appeared to get confused during the first challenge and thought placing a coffin into someone’s grave meant saving them, when the opposite was true.
Appearing ditzy, she also keeps referring to herself as an “old bird” even though she’s only 62.
Jack
Some superfans are convinced it is Jack who is a personal trainer and chess player.
They said: “I think the Secret Traitor is Jack. He is a chess player who is used to working by himself.” They added: “But also when they did the naming at the first round table, they didn’t show a board with his handwriting on which probably would have been a match with the scroll that was given to the main traitors.”
Other fans agreed online, as one person wrote: “Could Jack be the Secret Traitor??” along with the handwriting comparison. Another person said: “Jack is the secret traitor I just knoooowwwwwwww”.
Another quipped: “My current theory for the Secret Traitor, on #TheTraitors, is this guy, Jack. They specifically showed us the clip where he says he plays chess every day and competitively, is strategic, and good at reading people. This kind of role in the background suits him perfectly, honestly.”
A third added: “Jack on being a traitor and a comparison of the shortlist and his roundtable plaque. Currently, my frontrunner for being a secret traitor.” Another pointed out: “They focused in on everyone’s board at the round table except Jack’s and now I’m convinced he’s the secret traitor and we didn’t see his handwriting for a reason.”
Explaining the decision to introduce the twist, Mike Cotton, creative director at Studio Lambert, said: “Each series is like its own murder mystery. We never change the core game, but we always work in twists. We thought it would be interesting if you didn’t know who one of the Traitors was.
He added: “As Claudia says in the show, the secret Traitors reign will go on until the others earn the power back. The Traitors are used to having all of the power, so it will be interesting to see how they navigate that and if they can use it to their advantage.”
