As Dr Vincent Harper makes his debut on Coronation Street as Shona Platt’s surgeon, here’s where you’ve seen the actor who plays him before
A new character in Coronation Street recently made their debut on the soap – and fans will definitely recognise the actor who plays him.
As viewers will recall, Shona Platt (Julia Goulding) has been forced to have complex surgery in a bid to save the life of her baby daughter, who has a mass on her neck.
Shona, along with husband David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) and fellow residents like Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) and Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank), were caught up in the catatonic car crash earlier this week during the epic Corriedale episode.
And despite David and Shona managing to make it out alive, things took a worrying turn when Shona’s waters broke, before she was quickly transported back to Weatherfield for an operation.
In Wednesday’s episode (January 7) David and Shona were left unimpressed after finding out that the specialist surgeon who was expected to carry out the operation was not available due to being stranded abroad.
The hospital quickly recruited Dr Vincent Harper, who made the journey to Weatherfield from Bristol for the operation. However, an anxious David and Shona couldn’t help but worry about whether he would be good enough.
During the operation, Dr Harper had perform a tracheostomy so the baby could breathe, after struggling to fit the original tube. Fortunately, both Shona and the baby were ok following the operation.
They were then told by Dr Vincent Harper that experts would attempt surgery at a later date to remove the mass on her neck.
For the actor who plays newcomer Dr Vincent Harper, John Hollingworth, this is not his first time on screens. The telly star has appeared in several shows and movies over the years.
From 2015 to 2017 he played Captain Henshawe in BBC drama Poldark. John also starred in Doc Martin, alongside Martin Clunes, from 2017 to 2011 as Professor Sam Bradman.
Other TV appearances include Call The Midwife, Mr Bates vs The Post Office, Beyond Paradise and Vera. And heading over to the States, John bagged a role in the 2017 Hollywood blockbuster Transformers: The Last Knight, playing Tristan.
