What to do with misfiring Haaland? FPL team of the week

What should Erling Haaland’s FPL managers do?

The former perma-captain has only 14 points and one goal in his previous five games.

When would it normally be best to lead Haaland and potentially earn a Triple Captain chip against Wolves at home?

However, his current form is concerning, and there is always the possibility that he gets rested. The striker has started for City on Tuesday in the Champions League and has played every league game for City.

Omar Marmoush, an Egyptian international, is returning from the Africa Cup of Nations and could replace Haaland.

Although more than three in four FPL managers own Haaland, there is no benefit in benching him, it is definitely time to think about giving the captain’s armband to someone else.

And that’s what I did for this week’s team.

As if you were playing a Free Hit, the team of the week is chosen based on the current FPL prices to fit within a £100m budget.

What was the team’s performance last week?

Most managers had a low-scoring week, but Florian Wirtz, Gabriel, Nordi Mukiele, and Enzo Fernandez, who had a team lead the team with 45 points, five more than the average score, made it a low-scoring week.

Protector and defense

Everton keeper Jordan Pickford, £5.6 million (h)

With 100 points already already, Pickford is the top-scoring FPL keeper once more.

Everton have three league-best clean sheets in their last five games, and they face a Leeds side who are low scorers on the road, with just 11 goals in 11 games.

James Tarkowski, Everton, £5.6m – Leeds (h)

Tarkowski, who ranks fourth in the defensive player rankings with 108 points, is another Everton asset worth investing in. He has the second-most defensive contribution points (defcon) this year (32).

A respectable pick for any Toffees home game.

Manchester United (h) vs. Gabriel, Arsenal, £6.8 million

You don’t feel confident in an Arsenal clean sheet thanks to United’s impressive attacking display in the Manchester derby last week, where they could have scored five or six goals.

With just five goals conceded, Arsenal’s home game is a different story.

And Gabriel, who has a chance of scoring both goals and assists, is probably the most trustworthy FPL asset at the moment.

Manchester City‘s Marc Guehi, $5.2 million-Wolves (h)

Given his cost and the attacking returns he has received this season, New City defender Guehi is likely to be a popular choice.

This is a huge clean sheet chance for Wolves, who have only managed five goals away from home.

Nottingham Forest (h)Nathan Collins, Brentford, £5 million

Collins has been a FPL gem recently, with 10- and 13-point goals in his last three games, continuing the theme of center-backs with high defcon and attacking return potential.

Midfielders

Liverpool’s Florian Wirtz, £8.3 million – Bournemouth (a)

Only Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes has more points (38) than his 36 in those three prior 10-point performances.

This isn’t a simple game for Liverpool because Bournemouth have only conceded 11 in their 11 home games.

However, Wirtz is in excellent form, leading all other Liverpool players in terms of xG (2.31) and expected assists (1.45) in those five games.

Manchester City‘s Antoine Semenyo, $ 7.6 million – Wolves (h)

City’s last four league games have resulted in just three points, but they will eventually correct that and put a team in hiding.

Bottom-of-the-table Wolves would be the best option if you had to handpick a player to give City a “get-right” game.

Semenyo is the safest midfield bet in the city because of doubts about Phil Foden and Rayan Cherki starting.

Harry Wilson, Fulham, £5.9m – Brighton (h)

Wilson is probably the game’s best-value pick because of his past 10 games’ FPL victories.

With five goals from 11 shots on target and five assists from three big chances created, he has been very effective.

He belongs to a group of players where you shouldn’t even think about looking at statistics, much like Chris Wood did last year.

Strikers

Manchester City’s £15.1 million-a-Wolves (h) transfer, Erling Haaland

Haaland continues to play for the team, but I’m afraid of being benched, and Wolves’ recent lack of success have me offended.

Will you make another call?

Brentford (captain) Igor Thiago (h)Nottingham Forest (h) – £7.2 million

Thiago (6.09) leads all other strikers in the FPL with more home starts than Haaland (8.18).

This season, the Brazilian has made five double-digit starts, four of which were at home.

And Forest has yet to receive a water-tight defense from Sean Dyche.

Yes, they have put together some excellent performances, including a 3-0 win over Liverpool at Anfield and a 0-0 draw against Arsenal at home last week.

Only the Gunners and Manchester City have scored more at home than Brentford, and they’ve also been whalloped by the likes of Aston Villa and Everton on the road.

Thierno Barry, Everton, £5.7m – Leeds (h)

Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez, $6. 5 million (a)

Fulham defender Joachim Andersen, £4.6 million (h)

Sunderland midfielder Granit Xhaka, £5.2 million, West Ham (a)
