What is the Fifa Peace Prize?

Fifa has introduced the ‘Peace Prize’, an award recognising an individual’s actions for peace and unity.

The prize, set to be awarded annually, will be given to the person who has “taken exceptional and extraordinary actions for peace” and “united people across the world”.

The first winner will receive the award from Fifa president Gianni Infantino on Friday, 5 December during the 2026 World Cup draw in Washington DC.

“In an increasingly unsettled and divided world, it is fundamental to recognise the outstanding contribution of those who work hard to end conflicts and bring people together in a spirit of peace,” Infantino said in a Fifa statement.

Is Donald Trump going to win it?

Infantino and US President Donald Trump have appeared together in a public setting numerous times since the US was awarded hosting rights for the 2026 World Cup.

“We have a great relationship,” Infantino said. “I’m really lucky. I have a great relationship with President Trump, where I consider him a really close friend.”

Trump missed out on the Nobel Peace Prize last month, which was awarded to Venezuela’s Maria Corina Machado.

A White House official said the Nobel committee “place politics over peace”.

Fifa is yet to announce the winner and Infantino refused to say that Trump will be announced as the recipient in December.

When asked about it at the America Business Forum in Miami, Infantino said “you will see”.
