What did we learn from Rohl’s Rangers unveiling?

Danny Rohl, the head coach of the Rangers, and Russell Martin, his successor, had their first press conference at Ibrox just over four and a half months later.

Given Martin’s chaotic and unsuccessful 123-day tenure, the scope of the task he has ahead is well documented.

Thelwell and Stewart, a much-maligned duo, included the former Sheffield Wednesday manager, chairman Andrew Cavenagh, and Stewart, the former manager of the club.

In Rohl’s first appearance before the Scottish media, one thing became clear: Rohl is aware that he must win matches and win them quickly.

I questioned Rohl, the club’s youngest head coach, about his potential abilities to cope with, never mind thrive in one of the most demanding positions in British football.

He said, “I believe this business is under constant pressure.” You must pick that up quickly, they say.

I’m 16 years old, but some guys might even mention my age. Although I had the great opportunity to work for Bayern Munich as their assistant coach, I also understood what it means to be a head coach and the demands placed on you.

Thelwell received a lot of questions from the media pack.

Fans aren’t convinced that Robbie is qualified for the position, but there has been much praise for his son’s appointment as head of recruitment.

He defended and explained the decision to relocate Thelwell Jnr to Ibrox, though.

According to Thelwell, “It’s always uncomfortable to hear, but I think we all agreed when we decided to appoint Robbie that he would be seen in a particular way.”

“We want to bring the very best talent here to Rangers, in reality.”

Robbie didn’t need my assistance in football, according to my opinion of his career and circumstances.

He began his career as a senior scout at Aston Villa before moving to Norwich City as head of scouting before being promoted to player pathways manager.

He was asked if he would continue to support his multi-million-dollar signing, who hasn’t scored in seven games for the club.

“Yes, very much,” Thelwell said. Youssef Chermiti has a lot of potential, in my opinion.

“In any way, shape or form, I’ve never doubted him.” Danny, again, will help Youssef get the most out of him.

He has a young talent, and it’s still early days for him, which takes some time.

Given the vitriol that some of the club’s own supporters have directed at him, Stewart was also in the media’s firing line.

No one is happy with the results this season, he said, and I fully understand the frustration and hurt the supporters are feeling.

As the chief executive, I fully understand that there must be a solution to those frustrations.

After less than two years in charge of Sheffield Wednesday, Rohl’s relative youth and relative insecurities of the British game made things all work out fairly well.

He smiled broadly from beginning to end and engaged quickly and eagerly with the assembled media, if he was nervous, if he didn’t.

As he entered the press conference room at exactly 15:30, the renowned German for punctuality and efficiency was present right away.

He answered questions with a lot of detail and had excellent English. Fans will enjoy his desire to win first, and then play nice football afterwards.

He made it clear that he was going to start working right away without making any mistakes. He was appointed late on Monday, but he’s already had his first training session and expressed his satisfaction with the players’ “intensity.”

He’d better get used to the intensity. He is now in the spotlight of a disloyal Glasgow. Celtic has an eight-point start under his leadership, while Rangers are 13 points clear of Hearts as leaders of the Premiership. There is no wasting a second.
