Chris Woakes, a former England international, has been signed by Welsh Fire for The Hundred’s 2026 season.
The 36-year-old is a one-day and T20 World Cup winner who was described by Welsh Fire as “one of the most respected all-rounders in world cricket.”
Woakes signed for the Fire last year, but he was unable to return after dislocating his shoulder in his final Test match against India in August.
Welsh Fire will be hoping the white-ball veteran helps turn the side’s fortunes around after a difficult few years with over 300 international wickets and experience in franchise leagues around the world.
Woakes expressed his satisfaction with Woakes’ return to Welsh Fire for the Hundred campaign this year.
I was devastated that I couldn’t play in front of Welsh Fire fans last year due to a shoulder injury, but I’m really excited to be back.
Woakes has only played three games for Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred in 2023 despite having extensive experience competing in white ball.
Chris is a top-notch cricket player and a fantastic addition to our group, according to Welsh Fire men’s head coach Michael Hussey.
His knowledge, professionalism, and ability to influence games both on and off the field will be invaluable to us.
Woakes joins Phil Salt, Rachin Ravindra, and Marco Jansen as Welsh Fire’s final and final direct signing.
