Governors of state were notified by President Bola Tinubu that the Federal Government would revoke approvals for illegal setbacks on federal highways.
During the Lekki Deep Sea Port’s official opening on Thursday, Tinubu issued the warning.
During the commissioning of phase 1 of the project on Saturday, the President issued a warning to developers against erecting structures on the setbacks around the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.
At the event on Thursday, where several state governors were present, Tinubu once more stressed the importance.
Take it that we will revoke all those approvals, even those that have already been granted, and take it that we are very serious about this, according to the deputy governor of Lagos. The President warned against the need for planning permission for those unapproved islands that are being created illegally.
Setbacks are defined as the minimum distance a building must be from a property line or road, which is typically three to nine meters.
He also made an appeal to the governor to work with the Federation’s Surveyor General and the Ministry of Works to avoid approving planning plans.
The Honorable Minister of Works has instructed the Federation’s Surveyor General and all state governors to collaborate on these legacy projects to obtain reasonable setbacks for land-related expansion, the construction of infrastructure, and the return on investment.
“Please, our dear governors, let’s work together. Please, I ask that you collaborate with the Federation’s Surveyor General and the Ministry of Works in getting planning approvals, Tinubu said.
