Warrington’s Burgess misses US flight amid visa delay

Sam Burgess, the head coach of Warrington Wolves, was awaiting visa clearance to enter the United States on Sunday before his team’s Super League game against Wigan Warriors.

Burgess reportedly traveled to the US embassy in London to get his application approved in time for the game on Saturday, March 1st, after having trouble getting a visa.

Should a visa be granted soon, The Wire are still optimistic Burgess will arrive in time for the game at Allegiant Stadium in six days.

Following Friday’s victory over the Catalans Dragons in Warrington, Burgess said he anticipated a decision wouldn’t be made in time for him to travel with his squad and backroom team on Sunday.

“It’s been a bit of a process over the past couple of days”, Burgess told BBC Radio Merseyside.

My visa application has been reviewed, and it has been going for a while.

” I respect the process and everyone’s efforts to get it to this point, but it’s essentially out of my control so we’ll see what the next 24 hours bring.

When questioned if he knew the cause of the delay in processing his visa, Burgess responded that he did not want to discuss it.

“Everyone has been great at the US embassy, but I understand these things take time”, he added.

The US board of control is currently in charge of approving the final approval, so there it is. I’m in the process, and I’m hoping not to be too far behind the team if I don’t get on a flight on Sunday.
