Warrington Wolves (16):

Goals: Sneyd 2

Leeds Rhinos (10) 14

In their 5, 000th Super League game, Warrington Wolves defeated Leeds Rhinos in a second-half fightback.

Leeds crossed three times without reply on either side of half-time after Arron Lindop had put the hosts in front with a strong individual try.

Midway through the second period, James McDonnell, Riley Lumb, and Ryan Hall each scored a 14-6 lead.

Sam Burgess’ side moved up to third place in the table after Leigh’s defeat at home to Wakefield.

A rejigged Wire team got off to a flying start without the help of injured backs when Lindop, a teenager, rushed onto the ball himself and chipped a kick behind Leeds’ backline to make a perfect fit.

Leeds’ quick response was aided by Ash Handley’s excellent offload to Lumb, even though Jake Connor’s final move appeared to go ahead.

However, there was no denying that Lumb’s fifth Super League try of the year came from Connor’s pass, which was both valid and impressive.

Hall, the competition’s all-time top try-scorer, acrobatically completed his 257th Super League score to give the visitors an eight-point advantage after making his 500th career debut against reigning champions Wigan last weekend.

With his conversion attempt from the touchline, Connor kept Warrington’s deficit within single figures.

Ratchford’s skillful center wriggled his way over the try-line from close range to close the two-point gap.

Stefan Ratchford, a centre for Warrington, told BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra:

We developed a game plan throughout the week, but we kind of abandoned it at the beginning of the game.

“Leeds had the majority of the field position at the time, but we won the game with a fantastic try from Arron Lindop.”

“We had a good patch, but on the final play, we conceded two tries, which was disappointing.

It’s still a lot to work on, but ultimately it’s a good win for us.

Brad Arthur, the Rhinos’ head coach, told BBC Radio Leeds:

We put in a lot of effort, and it was a very good effort. We were physically strong, and we were very good in the first half.

“We had to defend our try-line for a long time, especially at the start of the second half,” he said. In the end, there were too many errors and penalties, probably in the second half.

I appreciated how much fighting and grit we received. We just need to understand that the difference between one or two sets of sets can be significant if we can control them a little more effectively.

On Palasia’s yellow card, she says, “I’ve seen plenty of them before, as long as they’re consistent. I would have to pause and watch the replay. They possess all available perspectives.
