Wales’ Evans condemns social media abuse over her look

Georgia Evans, the Wales ace, has received criticism for her appearance on the field.

The 28-year-old Saracens forward’s victory over Wales over the weekend put an end to their Women’s Rugby World Cup hopes of reaching the quarter-finals. She won her 42nd international cap.

During the 42-0 defeat in Salford, Evans earned praise from pundits for her ball-carrying, tackling, and work-rate, which frequently tie her hair back with ribbons during games.

However, she has responded to negative social media posts by saying that “a rugby player is no longer defined by your gender or what you look like.”

Evans continued, “It seems like my game day appearance seems to be offending some people, and I’m so sorry for that.

The biggest Women’s Rugby World Cup is taking place right now, with me, my team, and all the amazing female athletes from around the world celebrating the best of the best and being supported by thousands of people, including young boys and girls, who are finally seeing what is possible in this incredible game.

“Yes, Wales haven’t been at their best, but I’m not here to make any justifications for that.

What I’ll say is that my ability, my passion, or fight for this game are unrelated to what I choose to wear, including the bows in my hair, the tape around my arm, the eyelashes, and the full face of make-up I choose to wear.

Every boy and girl, regardless of their body type, shape, or appearance, has space and room in this game. A rugby player is no longer defined by their gender or appearance, which is not a rugby look. It’s childish, but to all those young girls, it’s a good reminder that you can’t be bothered by who you are in order to fit in a stereotype.
