Chris Wakelin, England’s Chris Wakelin, defeated Chang Bingyu 9-2 on Sunday to claim the Scottish Open title. He won eight frames in a row in Edinburgh.
The 33-year-old won the title and the second ranking victory of his career with a score of 2-1 over his Chinese opponent in the afternoon session of the final.
The 23-year-old Bingyu struggled to recover as Wakelin, who had pneumonia last week and claimed his one-year-old daughter Mia was teething, levelled at 2-2 with his seven 50+ breaks.
Being the winner is just magic, since my only objective this week was to enter the building and get my cue out.
In the Snooker Shoot Out in January 2023, Wakelin honored Bingyu, who is ranked 70th and took nine hundred break breaks during the contest.
He added that Bingyu was an “absolute credit to the sport” and that he was “absolutely a star player to watch out for” and that he is certain he will return to the top of the rankings soon.
