WAEC Denies Cancelling 2025 WASSCE, Results To Be Released August 4

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Nigeria, has refuted online allegations that the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) will be canceled for school candidates.

The reports were described as “false and mischievous,” according to a press release released on Sunday on WAEC’s official X handle, and WAEC appealed to the public to discredit them.

The Council criticized the rumor, which claimed that the Federal Ministry of Education, in collaboration with WAEC, had cancelled all papers as a result of widespread examination malpractice.

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Nigeria), was called to the release, which read, “The WAEC, Nigeria, has been informed that all papers have been canceled for the just-completed WASSCE for School Candidates, 2025. The Federal Ministry of Education, in collaboration with WAEC, had to cancel the said examination in accordance with the press release from Saturday, July 19, 2025, which was being circulated on social media platforms.

The WAEC Management wishes to reaffirm unwaveringly that the Council did not publish the false press statement. The exam has not been canceled, according to the statement. The Council is certain that the false claim is being spread by mischief-makers who are determined to discredit the Council and cause confusion and panic among those who took the test, despite the uncertainty surrounding the source of that information.

The results of the said examination will be released on or before Monday, August 4, 2025, as it is true, the script marking process has only recently been completed.

Further, WAEC cautioned the public to rely solely on reliable information from its accredited media outlets and social media platforms.

The Council would like to use this opportunity to let the public know that all of our official and verified social media accounts and accredited media outlets are accessible to the general public and all interested parties.
