After placing fourth in five World Cup competitions, American Lindsey Vonn declares she will be “in a good place” for the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics.
The 41-year-old finished third in the super-G in Val d’Isere on Sunday, earning her 142nd World Cup podium finish. She became the oldest downhill World Cup winner last week.
Vonn, who hasn’t raced in the French Alps resort for eight years, finished second in one minute 20.60 seconds behind Italian champion Sofia Goggia, with New Zealand’s Alice Robinson, who came in second.
Vonn said, “On the first jump, I didn’t quite have enough direction.” I skied well after that. I’m enjoying my skiing today, as opposed to the super-G in St Moritz, where I was too traditional.
I am aware of my mistakes and what they are costing me.
After finishing third in the downhill on Saturday, Cornelia Huetter of Austria and Kira Weidle-Winkelmann of Germany, she earned her second podium finish at Val d’Isere.
Vonn injured her knee in February 2019, but she made a competitive return in December 2024 after having a partial knee replacement.
The Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, which will take place on February 6 through to February 22, have 47 days left.
She is currently competing for the United States at the 2026 Games and already holds two gold and two bronze medals.
“I will be in a good place in Cortina,” Vaunn declared.
In addition, she wants to win four World Cup titles in her 20 years of professional football.
She is currently tied for fifth in the super-G standings and 69 points clear of the top overall downhill.
