Villa complain to Premier League after missing out on Champions League

Aston Villa will lodge a complaint with the Premier League following their 2-0 defeat at Manchester United and Champions League exit due to a “big mistake” by referee Thomas Bramall.

The visitors thought they had scored when Morgan Rogers slotted home from United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir with the ball still on goal and Villa were at 10 men after Emiliano Martinez was sent off.

Although television footage revealed otherwise, Bramall blew for a foul by believing Bayindir had two hands on the ball.

The video assistant referee was unable to intervene because Bramall had stopped play before the ball reached the net.

Amad Diallo headed United in front shortly after, and Christian Eriksen’s late penalty saw Villa finish sixth in the Champions League standings behind.

Director of football Damian Vidagany expressed his disappointment at Villa’s decision to hand Bramall, 35, an important game, during a press conference following the match.

Vidagany threatened to file a complaint, adding, “We are going to do so.” The complaint is not about the decision; rather, it is about the choice of the referee, who is one of the Premier League’s most inexperienced referees.

It’s not about the choice; it was obviously an error. The referee is the subject of the complaint. Why the international referees weren’t present today is the issue.

Unai Emery, the manager of Villa, was clearly upset when United decided to reject Rogers’ goal and give United their late penalty.

He stated after the game that the move was acceptable, but that it must be accepted. It was incorrect. a major error.
