Max Verstappen, the reigning Formula 1 champion, announced that he would stay with the Red Bull team for the following year, easing rumors about his future.
The four-time champion said on Thursday before the Hungarian Grand Prix, “It’s always been quite clear, and also for next year.
“I’m already talking about the plans that we want to change for the following year with the team,” he said, adding that I’ll also be staying with the team for the following year.
Verstappen’s contract with Red Bull runs until 2028. He had deflected direct questions about leaving the team for the following year at recent motorsport events, and there had been indications that a performance-related clause might have allowed him to leave sooner. Any clause’s specific details are not made public.
George Russell, the driver for Mercedes, claimed that Verstappen and his team were in talks.
