Despite having her attend a training camp, South Africa has confirmed that former captain Dane van Niekerk will “definitely not be part” of their team for October’s 50-over World Cup.

Van Niekerk reversed her retirement on Monday when South Africa announced a 20-person group that would take place at a home camp.

Van Niekerk, 32, left South Africa’s T20 World Cup squad in March 2023 because he “did not meet the minimum criteria for fitness” (to be met).

She hasn’t played since March, but she has continued to play domestic cricket.

Van Niekerk remarked, “Time away has reminded me how much I miss representing my country.

She’s just one of the larger or broader group of players we’re attempting to envelop our environment, Mashimbyi said.

She won’t be participating in this World Cup, she says. She won’t be traveling.

We wanted to welcome her and actually give her a chance to be around.

“I’m hoping she can continue on from here and fully comprehend how she wants to proceed.” And then, when she receives a call, she can immediately enter and make an impact.

Van Niekerk, who played her most recent 194 internationals in September 2021, said, “I am probably not where everyone is right now. I am aware of my position within the team.

If I’m not willing to put that in, I definitely wouldn’t have gone through all of this.

“This is kind of a baseline for where I can really gauge where I’m at in terms of the physical side, the skill side, and all those things.”

After this camp, I hope to have a clearer view. With the discussions we had, I would be aware of where I should be in the coming months.

Van Niekerk attempted to return for a home World Cup in February 2023 after suffering an ankle injury, but Cricket South Africa (CSA) claimed she did not finish the 2 km run time that had been set aside.

She claimed that that decision had caused her to be “absolutely broken” and that she had already retired.
