Despite a subpar performance in the second round of the World Matchplay, three-time champion Michael van Gerwen and Gerwyn Price overcame Daryl Gurney in a heated encounter in Blackpool.
Van Gerwen eventually defeated fellow Dutchman Van Barneveld 10-6 in a slog filled match at the Winter Gardens after “making things difficult for himself.”
He told Sky Sports, “Raymond didn’t play his A-game, but I was more irritated by my own game because I knew I could do better.”
I enjoy playing this tournament. It has been won three times by me. The crowd is always loud. Nothing can compare. However, it is incredibly annoying when you don’t play perfectly.
After winning the match with a score of 10-7, Price and Gurney engaged in a heated exchange at the conclusion.
Welshman Price reacted furiously to Gurney’s mocking of his passionate victory speech by violently shaking his hand before the pair exchanged vehement words.
As the two players sat down for the second break and began to prepare for the break, Northern Irishman Gurney appeared to mutter an expletive to himself.
Prior to a 2019 Premier League game in Sheffield, the pair had a security issue when they had to be separated.
