‘Unimaginable loss’: North Macedonia reels from deadly nightclub fire

According to the nation’s interior minister, a fire broke out in a nightclub in Kocani, in the eastern town of Kocani, killing 59 people.

Interior Minister Pance Toskovsk reported that the “Club Pulse” fire that started early on Sunday left more than 100 people injured.

According to Toskovski, the fire was most likely brought on by the use of “light effect” pyrotechnic devices at the concert.

The sparks “captured the ceiling, which was made of easily flammable material,” he said as they were set off, and the fire quickly spread across the entire discotheque, creating thick smoke.

More than 1, 000 mostly young fans attended the venue to see a well-known hip-hop duo called DNK.

Some of the injured were transported by helicopter to hospitals in Skopje, which is located 100 kilometers (62 miles) west of the airport.

According to Nebojsa Nastov, a doctor at the facility, 27 of them received admission to the Naum Ohridski clinic.

14 people died in a major fire in Tetovo, a town in the northwestern region, in September 2021, at a COVID-19 patient unit.
