With a stupendous stoppage victory over Kieron Conway, unbeaten George Liddard won the title of youngest British and Commonwealth middleweight champion in history.
Following a straight right hand that fell flush on the chin, the 23-year-old from Billericay, Essex, had the reigning champion down in the ninth minute at York Hall in Bethnal Green.
Conway was saved from further punishment when he encountered another right cross in the tenth grade, prompting his corner to throw in the towel.
Conway, a native of Northampton, suffered his fourth defeat of his 28-fight career while Liddard’s record improved to 13-0.
I feel like a kid at Christmas, like a kid in a candy store, but my favorite thing is a belt, Liddard told BBC Essex.
Everyone seemed shocked at how cool, composed, and self-assured I was entering this fight; some believed the situation would turn out to be better, others believed it would be too soon, but I knew this was my turn.
Everyone assumes you’re delusional until you actually do it, he added.
