Two Tribes lands Goodwood gamble in Stewards’ Cup

PA

The Stewards’ Cup winner at Glorious Goodwood, Two Tribes, won it for the second time in a week with strong support.

The 11-2 chance, which David Egan and Richard Spencer both rode, was as big as 18-1 on Friday.

Two Tribes, owner of the 1980s film franchise Frankie Goes to Hollywood, was named in honor of Phil Cunningham’s successful Ascot win seven days prior.

He surpassed Strike Red by two and a half lengths, with Jakajaro coming in third, drawing 25 of the 27 runners to Goodwood.

He actually made things easier there than he did in the International. Egan, who crossed the finishing line with the horse, punched the air and did a quick double like that.

Run Boy Run and Twilight Calls, both of which placed fourth and fifth, were also in Spencer’s honor.

In the Lillie Langtry Stakes earlier, Callum Rodriguez rode the Waardah-trained filly by Owen Burrows.

Rodriguez, who was one of five jockeys to miss rides on Thursday because a private plane that was taking them to Goodwood had to make an emergency landing, came out in good form with the end of the five-day meeting.
