An 11-bike collision at a British Supersport Championship race in Oulton Park on Monday left two riders dead, according to the report.
In a “major chain reaction” incident on the first lap of the race, the riders exited turn one, and Englishman Owen Jenner, 21, and New Zealand’s Shane Richardson, 29, both died.
The third of the weekend’s racing was halted on the first lap, with series director Stuart Higgs later referring to the incident as “severe and catastrophic” when he announced the event had been canceled.
Another rider, Tom Tunstall, was reported to have “significant injuries,” according to Motorsport Vision Racing (MSVR), who are in charge of Oulton Park’s circuit operations.
Owen Jenner, age 21, died from a fatal head injury, according to MSVR, who was treated trackside before being transported to the circuit medical center.
“Shane Richardson, 29, received severe chest injuries at Royal Stoke University Hospital after receiving treatment trackside and then being taken to the circuit medical center. Prior to arriving, he died.
Tom Tunstall, 47, suffered significant back and abdominal injuries at the time of his initial treatment on the track and was taken to the circuit medical center. He later spent time at Royal Stoke University Hospital.
At the circuit medical center, riders Carl Harris, Max Morgan, Cameron Hall, Freddie Barnes, and Morgan McLaren-Wood received minor injuries.
Although Lewis Jones, Corey Tinker, and George Edwards were not hurt in the collision, they were also.
According to MSVR and the Motorcycle Racing Control Board, “in collaboration with the Coroner and Cheshire Constabulary, we are looking into the entire circumstances of the incident.”
Bradley Ray won the first race of the meeting on Sunday, and Leon Haslam won the sprint on Monday for the first time in his career.
The main British Superbike series is supported by the Supersport Championship.
