An iconic 1960s musician and his wife of 56 years died in a horrific house fire. After their Belgian home caught fire, Tucker Zimmerman and Marie-Claire Lambert passed away in smoke.
The 84-year-old died on January 17 in Liege as a result of a fire at their Saint-Georges-sur-Meuse residence. Although one of their neighbors called the emergency services, firefighters were already putting out the fire. The fire is being handled as an unintended event.
Tony Visconti, a well-known musician, shared the news of Tucker’s passing on social media. He wrote, “I just received tragic news from Tucker Zimmerman’s son, Quanah Zimmerman.

In a house fire yesterday, Tucker and his wonderful wife Marie-Claire perished. I’m stunned. In 1967, I met Tucker and Marie-Claire in London.
“Tucker was a master songwriter and musician from San Francisco. His songs were revolutionary and biting. I wrote Tucker Zimmerman’s Ten Songs, his first album, for him.
Tucker, who he called one of his “oldest friends,” was adored by British artist David Bowie, he added. We had previously made a podcast and had met several times over the years. One of my oldest friends was him. Bowie was in love with him.
At David’s Arts Lab night, David gave Tucker a masterful psychedelic light show while playing a set of his songs at the Three Tuns in Beckenham, Kent. It was like a very dark Bob Dylan song if you haven’t heard Tucker’s music. I’m completely engulfed.

The Life On Mars singer claimed that Tucker’s 1969 album Ten Songs was one of his favorites in a Vanity Fair article from more than 20 years ago. According to me, the guy is way too qualified for folk, “he said.” He has a Fulbright scholarship, studied with composer Henry Onderdonk, studied theory and composition, and wants to be Dylan.
“A waste of incendiary talent,” Not, in my opinion. I frequently wondered what ever happened to him when I first discovered this album of stern, angry compositions enthralling.
Tucker continued to record music despite David’s passing in 2016 from liver cancer. Dance of Love, his most recent album, was released in September 2024.
Tucker, who was four years old, began learning to play music when he was born in February 1941. He moved to Italy in 1966 when he was 25 years old to pursue a career in composition and released his debut album Ten Songs. He wed Marie-Claire the following year, in 1970.
From 1985, Tucker also wrote compositions for orchestras and film music as well as short stories and poems. Passing Through/Torn Formations (1988) and All Fall Down (2009) were two of the movies he co-wrote for. His music was also used in the soundtrack to David Bowie’s 2020 biopic Stardust, which had no permission to use any of David Bowie’s music.
