Trump, whose businesses benefit from lucrative US federal contracts, told US network NBC News in an interview released on Saturday, without revealing what the potential consequences might be for the tech mogul.
Trump’s supporters, a number of Republicans, and significant wealthy Republicans have urged the two to end their bitter conflict, citing fear of irreparable political and economic consequences.
Trump responded, “I would assume so, yeah, but I don’t know,” when asked whether he thought his relationship with the CEOs of Tesla and SpaceX was over.
Trump’s most in-depth remarks to date about the spectacular bust-up, in which Musk criticized his signature tax and spending bill as an “abomination,” were brought up in tension after he continued to highlight a time when the president and Jeffrey Epstein, a late sex offender, were brought up.
Musk had already wiped his “big bomb” claim from a government document that former Epstein associates, who were facing sex trafficking charges, had in unreleased government documents by Saturday morning.
In his post on X on Thursday, he wrote, “That is the real reason they haven’t been made public.”
According to his “MAGA” movement, the Trump administration has acknowledged that it is reviewing tens of thousands of documents, videos, and investigative material to expose public figures who are implicated in crimes committed by Epstein.
A New York judge released a large number of depositions and statements relating to Epstein in early 2024. Although the president has not been charged with any wrongdoing, he and Epstein have forged a long, well-known friendship.
Trump has denied going to Little Saint James, a private residence in the US Virgin Islands, where he was accused of having sex with underage girls.
Trump had abruptly fired Musk from his so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) cost-cutting position just last week.
Even though Musk tried to downplay his attacks as the frustrations of an “emotional guy,” Vice President JD Vance claimed that Musk was “making a huge mistake” attacking Trump.
“I hope Elon rejoins the family one day.” He claimed in an interview with comedian Theo Von that it might not be possible now because he has gone so nuclear.
Trump also claimed that Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Salvadoran immigrant, was being detained by the Department of Justice rather than him. He is accused of bringing illegal immigrants inside the country.
