Trump claimed in a statement on Sunday Briefing on Fox News that the proposed agreement would give US ownership of TikTok’s American assets from ByteDance, a Chinese parent company. He referred to the “American patriots” as those who were involved.

Trump praised TikTok for helping him gain more young voters’ votes during the election campaign in 2024, adding that “I think they’re going to do a really good job.”
Larry Ellison, the co-founder of the tech company Oracle, is one of the proposed investors and a well-known Republican donor. Rupert Murdoch, the son of Chaulan Murdoch, has long supported right-wing causes and movements, but his relationship with Trump, who is currently suing him, is complicated.
One of the most popular apps for political and cultural debate, a platform with about 170 million US users, would be given more influence by Trump’s allies in corporate America.
After settlement of a long-running legal dispute with his siblings, Lachlan Murdoch, the CEO of Fox Corp., recently consolidated control of his family’s media empire, which includes Fox News and the Wall Street Journal. Trump claimed that Rupert Murdoch, 94, may also be a part of the deal.
Murdoch’s media outlets have occasionally clashed with Trump, but they are primarily known for their right-leaning bias. Rupert Murdoch and the Wall Street Journal are facing defamation charges in the US president’s lawsuit against them for allegedly defaming a report from July that linked him to Jeffrey Epstein, a former financial executive and convicted sex offender. The newspaper has supported its reporting.
Other notable business figures named by Trump include Michael Dell, the CEO of Dell Technologies, who has previously been involved in TikTok’s future discussions with Ellison.
Democrats and Republicans back the US law, which was passed under former US President Joe Biden’s administration, because of security concerns that Beijing might have access to American users’ data.
However, many pro-Israeli politicians attribute the rise in the popularity of TikTok to the growing support for Palestinians and Israeli opposition among young Americans.
Soon after Israel’s occupation of Gaza, Trump’s secretary of state Marco Rubio demanded that TikTok be banned because its content was biased against Israel.
Trump signed two executive orders in August 2020 that were intended to restrict the app, and he had proposed to do so during his first term in office. The US president, however, made a U-turn and pledged to “save” the popular app during his re-election campaign in 2024.
Since then, the Trump administration has tied TikTok discussions to more extensive trade discussions with China.
