Troops Rescue Abductee, Recover Rustled Cattle In Kano

Following a gunfight with armed bandits along the Kano–Katsina border, Joint Task Force (JTF) soldiers shot down an abducted victim and recovered rustled cattle.

Following a tip-off regarding suspected bandits’ movements from the Daurawa and Kira areas of Katsina State towards the Kano axis, the operation, which took place around the Yankwada region of Kano State on Sunday, was launched.

According to military sources, the troops arrived at Ungwan Dogo/Ungwan Tudu and began to shoot at the bandits.

One 38-year-old kidnap victim, identified as Rabiu Alhaji Halilu, was saved during the encounter. According to reports, Halilu was shot in the leg and taken to the JTF Faruruwa Medical Center for treatment.

Major Babatunde Zubairu, the spokesman of the 3 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, claimed the troops had rushed to stop the bandits from escaping with their victims and stolen livestock.

A fighting patrol was dispatched to the Kano/Katsina border as a result of quick action. The troops encountered the armed bandits at Ungwan Dogo and Ungwan Tudu, he claimed, and engaged them in a fierce exchange.

Major Zubairu explained that after the troops had taken control of the bandits, they were forced to retreat.

According to him, “Our troops’ powerful firepower forced the bandits to flee into the chaos of Katsina State’s Matazu Local Government Area.”

Zubairu revealed that an undisclosed number of rustled cattle were recovered during the operation in addition to two motorcycles that the bandits had abandoned while they were fending off.

Residents of the area were assured by the army’s spokesman that security forces would remain vigilant.

His statement read, “Our troops are still on high alert as clearance operations continue to protect the safety and security of the affected communities.”
