Troops Apprehend Suspected Gun Runners, Recover Arms, Ammunition In Taraba

In Taraba State, troops from Operation Whirl Stroke and the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have detained suspected gun runners and recovered weapons and ammunition.

Following the earlier arrest of two suspected gun runners, Christopher Adamu and James Yangyang, at Sebos Joint in Mayo Dassa, Jalingo Local Government Area, and Tautre Village in Ardo-Kola Local Government Area, on January 11, and 12, 2026, respectively, the operation was carried out in conjunction with members of the Defense Intelligence Agency.

These arrests were made as a result of ongoing surveillance and deliberate operational planning intended to destabilize the criminal networks that were involved in the Area of Responsibility’s illegal proliferation of small arms.

The troops of Sector 3’s 6 Brigade conducted a well-planned cordon-and-search operation at Murubai Village in Ardo-Kola LGA, building on this success and acting on reliable, actionable intelligence.

One AK-47 rifle, one magazine, and four rounds of live ammunition were recovered from Mr. Bazoe John’s home, a suspected arms trafficker who is currently at large, according to Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, Public Relations Officer of the 6 Brigade, Nigeria Army, in a press release.

The statement added that the operation was carried out with care, restraint, and respect for civil authority, and that it came to an end without any injuries or incidents.

As part of ongoing efforts to deny criminal elements the right to take any action, authorities are still looking for the fugitive suspect and recover additional weapons.

Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commander of Operation Whirl Stroke and commander of 6 Brigade/Sector 3, commended the soldiers for their bravery, hard work, and professionalism.

He cited the success as evidence of the Nigerian Army’s resolve to fight arms proliferation and other organized crime within the Area of Responsibility and the effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations.

The Commander urged the troops to maintain the momentum while upholding the highest standards of conduct and civil authority respect, ensuring them that higher HQ would continue to support them.

The operation further strengthens the commitment of Operation Whirl Stroke, the Nigerian Army, and 6 Brigade to protecting lives and property and preserving Taraba State’s long-term stability.
