The rapper founded the annual festival in his hometown of Houston, Texas in 2018, and had headlined every year since. But in 2021, the crowd surged during his performance, tragically leaving 10 people dead, aged from 14 to 27.

Following the tragedy, the rapper made a public statement on Twitter, now, X about the fatal festival – but didn’t apologise, saying: “I am absolutely devastated by what took place last night,” he tweeted, adding: “My prayers go out to the families and all those impacted by what happened at Astroworld Festival. Houston PD has my total support as they continue to look into the tragic loss of life.”

Attends Astroworld after-party

In the wake of the tragedy, it was soon revealed that Travis attended an after-party immediately after the Astroworld festival.

However, the Nightcrawler star defended himself, claiming not only was he not able to see what was going on in the crowd while on stage, he said he also didn’t know the gravity of the injuries and fatalities until after he’d already arrived at the star-studded after-party.

Arrested at Lollapalooza festival for ‘inciting chaos’

Astroworld wasn’t Travis’ first music festival, which was marred with trouble. In 2015, he made headlines after reportedly encouraging fans to jump the barricades during his performance.

Billboard said he “fled the scene” shortly after the concert but was arrested soon after. Travis was then charged with disorderly conduct.

He was sentenced to one year of court supervision after pleading guilty to reckless conduct charges handed down after the incident in Chicago at the Lollapalooza music festival. At the time, Chicago officials said Travis encouraged fans to jump security barricades. However, no one was injured.

Charged with causing a commotion at his concert

In May 2017, Travis was accused of causing a commotion at his concert after a riot broke out while he was performing in Rogers, Arkansas. Things got out of hand, leaving multiple audience members injured.

Travis was held responsible for the riot that broke out, with authorities claiming he encouraged the commotion while addressing the crowd.

Travis was charged with three counts “of inciting a riot, disorderly conduct and endangering the welfare of a minor after he invited fans to overpower security and rush the stage. ”

Several people were injured during the concert, including a security guard and a police officer. Travis pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and he was ordered to pay court fees to two injured people.

Sued after Travis’ security allegedly assaulted fan outside his concert

Earlier this year, the Mirror reported that Travis was being sued by a man who claims one of the music star’s security guards violently injured him.

Legal documents obtained by the Mirror US reveal that a man named Omar Muhanna claims he was outside of a “concert venue” where Travis was performing when one of the rapper’s security guards allegedly made violent physical contact with him.

Omar claimed in the lawsuit that he was allegedly assaulted “without cause, provocation, or justification.” Court documents listed that Omar alleged the attack, which he said left him “seriously and permanent injured,” happened on Aug. 17, 2024 in Manhattan.

The Sicko Mode rapper was performing at Fanatics Fest at the Javits Center in Manhattan on that day. Omar claims that the alleged assault occurred a few blocks away from the venue.

Omar’s lawsuit doesn’t allege that Travis personally did anything wrong to him. Instead, he claims that, since Travis hired the company, he is the one, “liable” for the alleged conduct — accusing that security guard of “violently contacting [Omar] without cause, provocation, or justification while in the course of his employment as those acts were committed within the scope of the employee’s employment,” according to court documents.
