Ben Davies, a Tottenham defender, may need surgery to repair his broken ankle, which could prevent him from qualifying for the World Cup.
After 19 minutes, West Ham’s 2-1 Premier League defeat on Saturday gave the 32-year-old some oxygen before being taken off on a stretcher.
A Spurs statement read, “We can confirm that Ben Davies will have left ankle surgery today.”
Wales’ captain Davies will not be out for how long, according to Tottenham.
With only seven wins from 22 league games this year and Spurs 14th overall, Davies joins Tottenham’s growing injury list, while Thomas Frank is under scrutiny as manager.
In the midst of West Ham’s final game, Spurs fans chanted “you’re getting sacked in the morning” to Frank, who was appointed in June.
