Top seed Gauff fights back to win in Montreal

Following a comeback victory over Veronika Kudermetova in Montreal, top seed Coco Gauff made it to the fourth round of the Canadian Open.

The world no. 2 rallied from a set and a break to win the tournament’s final 16 by winning 4-6, 7-5, and 6-2.

The winner of the match between Czech Republic’s Marie Bouzkova, 18, and Canadian wildcard Victoria Mboko of Canada, age 18, will now face the champion of the 2025 French Open.

Fourth seed Mirra Andreeva left the matchup after being defeated by 28th seed McCartney Kessler 7-6 6-5. The winner will face Marta Kostyuk, who won 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) against Daria Kasatkina, who is also seeded in Ukraine.

After beating Suzan Lamens 6-2, 6-2, Zhu Lin of China, who is unseeded, also advanced to the fourth round.

Third-seeded Lorenzo Musetti was eliminated from the men’s draw in Toronto after being defeated by American 26th seed Alex Michelsen 3-6, 7-6, 6-4 in the third round.

With his victory, Michelsen could face Learner Tien or Reilly Opelka in a fourth-round all-American match.

With a 7-6, 6-4 victory over Nuno Borges, eighth-seeded Casper Ruud, who defeated Emilio Nava 6 (6), 6 (6), and 6 (6), will face 11th-seeded Karen Khachanov, who defeated Emilio Nava 6 (6), 6 (6), 6 (6), 6 (6).
