Tom Hiddleston will reprise his role as Jonathan Pine as The Night Manager returns on January 1st as South Americ’s second season warms things up.

Tom Hiddleston couldn’t wait to reprise his role in The Night Manager, almost a decade after the first series aired in 2016. The modern spy-thriller classic is back on the BBC, with the actor returning as Jonathan Pine for more undercover activity.

Joined by Oscar winner Olivia Colman, who plays British intelligence officer Angela Burr, the pair work together to infiltrate the inner circle of arms dealer Richard Roper, portrayed by Hugh Laurie. The series is based on John le Carre’s 1993 novel, adapted for the small screen by David Farr.

10 million viewers tuned in to watch the explosive season finale in the UK alone, earning themselves Golden Globes for their performances. The first episode blasts us into 2026 on January 1st, and they’ll all be coming back for round two.

However, he has now revealed that the character had a personal impact on Hiddleston. The 44-year-old described his love for this person. His bravery is incredibly motivating to me. I enjoy playing him because he has a moral fire, a conviction in what is right and what this country should stand for that won’t be extinguished until the end of his life.

Pine will be operating under a new alias in the upcoming series, which sees him take on a mission in Colombia. Hiddleston explained: “He’s still very much a night manager, just managing the night in a slightly different way; he’s a nocturnal animal for sure.

Before being hired by MI6’s security and intelligence services as a field agent, he was the night manager of a posh hotel in Egypt and Switzerland in the first series. He is now a night manager, operating a surveillance operation to track down various bad actors entering and exiting London’s casinos and hotels, which MI6 might want to follow.

He continues, “He encounters a confrontation that reminds him of his past and is inexorably drawn back toward the fire,” adding: “In running the Night Owls, he is confronted by a confrontation that draws him to the fire. However, I believe that Pine’s comfort zone is what makes him so fascinating. He is a fascinating character to play because he actually feels most alive when he is most vulnerable.

Alistair Petrie from Sex Education reprises his role as Sandy Langbourne, and Noah Jupe from A Quiet Place reprises his role as Daniel Roper, the son of Richard Roper. Rex Mayhew is reprised by Joker actor Douglas Hodge, who also portrayed Frisky in Traces.

Diego Calva, Daisy Jones &amp, Camila Morrone, Indira Varma, Paul Chahidi, and Hayley Squires, the actress from Adult Material, are the cast’s newcomers.

Teddy Dos Santos, Pine’s new adversary, will be played by Mexican actor Calva. Teddy, the 33-year-old actor, considers himself a complex villain.

The star of Narcos: Mexico said, “You can do it in a very one-dimensional way, part of being the antagonist.” I’ve tried to add as many layers as possible to Teddy so that he becomes more complex and human.

“Both my director and my co-stars have benefited me greatly from that,” my director said. I believe Teddy should be a pretty human villain, albeit strange.

According to Calva, the series’ feel has changed as a result of its Latin American setting. He continued, “I believe Season Two has its own soul.

It’s “The Night Manager,” which means “going to Colombia and Latin America,” so it’s a little spicier. It also encourages Tom’s character to grow and become more difficult. You never quite know who is lying, who the good guys are, or who the bad guys are, just like in any spy story, because the core is still there.

On BBC One and BBC iPlayer, The Night Manager Season 2 premieres on January 1 at 9 p.m.
