Tolerate Viral Corps Member, Nigerians Are Frustrated, TUC Tells FG

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) officials allegedly threatened a corps member for criticizing the President-Bola Tinubu administration, which is currently the trending issue of the Trade Union Congress (TUC).

Festus Osifo, the head of the TUC, said the corps member spoke out of frustration and advised the government to be tolerant of critics while being a guest on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics.

Ushie Uguamaye, a NYSC member from Lagos, had taken to Twitter to criticize Tinubu’s administration for the hardships the administration has encountered as a result of its economic reforms.

Her video went viral, and NYSC officials later accused her of calling her and threatening to delete it. An official statement regarding the subject has not yet been released by NYSC.

However, the TUC leader remarked that “they (the government) must develop this resilience to recognize that people are frustrated, hungry, and tired. Therefore, I think the government should not personalize it and pursue those who decide to vent.

What exactly does a young woman carrying out her NYSC function have to do to sabotage the government? She has aired personal frustration, so that is.

“So, I believe the government needs to work harder, be more tolerant, and be so patient with Nigerians because the country is currently going through a lot,” he said.

However, the TUC boss advised critics to always express their opinions with respect to the government, as is customary and decency-based.

Amnesty International also criticized the alleged intimidation and threats facing Lagos-based corps members in a statement released earlier on Sunday.

It stated that the Federal Government must stop threatening those who criticize the current administration.
