President Bola Tinubu’s Super Falcons received a financial reward for their participation in the recently concluded Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, according to President Bayo Onanuga, who has defended the statement.
Onanuga questioned why some Nigerians don’t like the President’s cash reward for the players in a post on his X handle on Tuesday.
He compared it to the reality series winner of Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) for the 150 million grand prize.
According to him, President Tinubu praised excellence, originality, hard work, soccer talent, and the unwavering spirit of Nigeria.

Onanuga’s comments come before Tinubu hosts the Super Falcons on Monday after returning from Morocco.
The President made the announcement that each of the 24 players would receive the equivalent of $100, 000 at the event. He claimed that the winners would also be given a three-bedroom apartment.
The Super Falcons’ victory in Nigeria’s 10th WAFCON title earned them the national honor of Officer of the Order of Niger. He thanked them for bringing the spirit of Nigeria to light among the people.
The First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, who had earlier flown with the team after they had won their 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title, received the triumphant players and other team members.  ,
Around 2:26 p.m., the team boarded a chartered flight and arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
