Tinubu Mourns Kano Athletes, Sympathises With Families

On Saturday, President Bola Tinubu expressed condolences to the families of the Kano State contingent members who had died in a road accident while returning from the recently concluded National Sports Festival in Ogun State.

The president expressed his condolences to the Kano State government, the people of Kano State, as well as to the victims’ families and loved ones in a statement from presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga.

“The nation is dealt a devastating blow. It obscures the National Sports Festival, a celebration of unity, talent, and excellence. The President said that it has long been a platform for identifying and nurturing athletes who promote Nigeria both internationally and on national and international stages.

The accident victims, whose dedication and aspirations in their various vocations exemplified the resilient Nigerian spirit, were the subject of President Tinubu’s tribute.

He reaffirmed that taking concrete steps to reduce future tragedies and raise safety standards across the country’s transportation systems is the greatest honor the country can bestowe on them.

The President asked God Almighty to give the bereaved families strength and comfort in exchange for the peaceful repose of the departed’s souls.

In a related development, President Tinubu expressed his deep concern about the severe flooding that has affected the Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State, which has caused numerous families to lose their lives.

President Tinubu ordered the National Emergency Response Centre to be immediately activated after receiving initial reports, and the NEMA has since been fully informed about the magnitude of the disaster and the urgent humanitarian needs.

Search-and-rescue operations are currently underway, and the Niger State Government’s response has been supported by all relevant federal agencies. Without delay, temporary shelters and relief supplies are being deployed.

“I can assure all those who have been impacted that your government is with you.” The President stated that we will continue to work with the Niger State Government to ensure a swift, coordinated, and compassionate response that prioritizes lives, restores dignity, and expedites recovery.

Additionally, President Tinubu mandated that NEMA and the National Emergency Response Centre provide ongoing coordination and updates. He also issued a command to security organizations to assist in emergency operations.

He urged all Nigerians to pray and keep their thoughts and prayers with the Mokwa population.
