We do this to honor his commendable press freedom credentials, encourage him to do even more, and help inspire others to follow his example, the organization said.
President Tinubu praised the IPI award, upholding citizens’ rights, and carrying out obligations within the meaning of the law, in a statement from presidential spokeperson Bayo Onanuga on Sunday.
The President reaffirmed that the DSS under Ajayi is transforming the culture of hostility toward journalists and creating a dialogue- and robust engagement with the populace.
President Tinubu urged other security organizations and officials to follow the DSS example and use the media as partners rather than adversaries.
