Tinubu Appoints Omotenioye Majekodunmi As NCCC DG

Omotenioye Majekodunmi has been appointed the new Director-General of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC), according to President Bola Tinubu.

Nkiruka Madueke, the agency’s pioneering head, was replaced by Majekodunmi in June 2024 by the President.

Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga made her appointment in a statement released on Thursday.

With more than 17 years of experience, Makodunmi has extensive experience working with national and international institutions on climate governance, carbon markets, and renewable energy.

She previously served as the NCCC’s financial adviser and has played a significant role in shaping Nigeria’s climate policies and engagements abroad, he continued.

Onanuga praised Madueke for her tireless service and solid foundation for the council’s continued expansion, according to President Tinubu.

The Tinubu administration’s commitment to combating climate change is reiterated in the statement’s title, “Majekodunmi’s appointment confirms the administration’s commitment to doing so in order to promote both environmental sustainability, national security, and social inclusion.”

OMOTENIOYE MAJEKODUNMI IS THE NATIONAL COUNCIL ON CLIMATE CHANGE. PRESIDENT TINUBU APPOINTS OMOTENIOYE MAJEKODUNMI AS DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF THE NATIONAL COUNCIL.

The National Council on Climate Change (NCCC) has been appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as its new director general.

She succeeds Dr. Nkiruka Madueke, the Council’s original leader, as appointed by the President in June 2024.

With more than 17 years of experience, Mrs. Majekodunmi, a climate finance expert and environmental lawyer, has collaborated extensively with international and national organizations on climate governance, carbon markets, and renewable energy.

She played a significant role in shaping Nigeria’s climate policies and international engagements before becoming the NCCC’s financial advisor.

The President acknowledges Dr. Nkiruka Madueke’s devoting service and solid foundation for the Council’s continued expansion by her stepping-dead director-general.
