Actor Timothée Chalamet has spoken about the EsDeeKid conspiracy as fans try to figure out whether he has secretly been putting out music or whether it’s somebody else entirely
Timothée Chalamet fans are convinced he has a secret career as a rapper – and even puts on a Liverpudlian accent to throw listeners off the scent. The conspiracy theory gained traction recently after the actor appeared on the news this week – and dodged the question with a simple “no comment.”
In the interview, BBC correspondent Colin Paterson said: “You’re here in the UK. You can clear it up. EsDeeKid. What is going on?” As soon as Timothée hears the name, he shakes his head before replying: “No comment.”
Pushing further, the interviewer adds: “No comment, but give us a Scouse accent. Give us your best Beatle.” Politely refusing the request, Timothée responds: “You’ll see… all in due time.”
Liverpool rapper EsDeeKid keeps his identity under wraps, only revealing his eyes in music videos. Because of this, fans have been trying to guess who he really is.
Named one of the year’s breakout stars in 2024 by Pitchfork, EsDeeKid released his debut album Rebel in June.
While he has managed to keep his identity – including his appearance, age, and real name – a secret, he did reveal on X (formerly Twitter) that he still lives in a council house.
Commenting on BBC’s Instagram post, one user wrote: “A video clip with two EsDeeKids, the real one and Timothée, coming soon.”
Meanwhile, another added: “Why wouldn’t he just say it’s not him?”
A third user said: “It’s not him, 100%. He’s just letting this young up-and-coming British rapper have his limelight. He’s just playing around, letting people think it’s him.”
Discussing the theory on Reddit, another user said: “I definitely can see it, but I think Tim’s got straighter eyebrows and not as pointed, especially toward the center of the face. But if I hear a song about statistics, I might have to take a second look. Lol.”
Another added: “I thought people were kidding when they started the rumor mill because it’s clearly not him. I went along because I thought it was funny, but people actually believe this!?”
One more user said: “Guys, I did a huge analysis looking at pics of Timothée’s hands vs. EsDeeKid’s hands. Same exact hands. Same vein placement and everything. I should make a video about it because it’s literally proof.”
Another user noted: “Their eyes are extremely similar; I haven’t seen anything like it. Attached is a screenshot from a video. I think this could be more of an Easter egg though, because this rapper has multiple concerts planned and has already had several concerts – there’s no way Timothée could attend all of those. He also has a heavy British accent, and while Timmy is an actor, it would be quite difficult. But I think it could be a fun little prank where Timmy just gets filmed in the music videos, while the rapper himself is a different person.”
