Glasgow Warriors vs. Stormers URC quarter-final
When: Friday, May 30th, 2019 Scotstoun Stadium Kick-off: 19:35 BST
This campaign embodies many of the Glasgow Warriors’ last campaign, which saw them reach the top of the United Rugby Championship.
Outstanding consistency for the majority of the campaign, only to fall apart in the fourth quarter due to some inconsistent performance. The Stormers are currently waiting in the quarter-finals of what should be a belting showdown at Scotstoun, just like they did that time.
Few people anticipated that Glasgow would regain the same level of momentum as they did in the play-offs last year, beating the South African team at home before stunning victories over Munster and the Bulls.
Warriors are once more seen as outsiders in the competition for the title, despite being the defending champions. Leinster, Bulls, and the Sharks are also seen as competitors.
However, they have more recent travel experience, and only a fool would criticize them.
Head coach Franco Smith told BBC Scotland, “We know the route, we know what it takes, and what it took.”
How can we decide what to do next in the next 80 minutes? That is the main topic.
At the start of the season, I believe we buried the weight of being champions. We all knew that putting more pressure on ourselves would burden us and prevent us from being the best version of ourselves.
“To be one of the eight teams left, which is obviously a compliment to the work that has been done and the way we’ve worked, is.
Returning players give boost
Glasgow’s crippling injury problems are a major factor in the decline in expectations.
Numerous important players have been sidelined for significant amounts of the season. Jack Dempsey and the Fagerson brothers are still sidelined, while Huw Jones’ return has been hampered by a recurring niggling Achilles issue.
However, some of the big guns are just in time to give the Warriors’ playoff challenge some new life.
Henco Venter, the potent South African back-row, is back after being suspended, while Sione Tuipulotu, Kyle Steyn, Max Williamson, and Scott Cummings have all since returned.
The Stormers are a team looking to retaliate for last season’s defeat at this point, and they are doing so in the right way.
According to Smith, “They’ve already won four games in a row.” No doubt about it, they’ll undoubtedly come out and give themselves a chance to win this game and advance in the competition. They and the coaching staff have a lot of respect, in our opinion.
