Aitana Bonmati, a midfielder for Spain, has broken her leg in training, and will miss out for a while.

The 27-year-old suffered a minor fall on Sunday during a morning practice at the national team’s training facility in Las Rozas, Madrid.

Spain was getting ready for their Uefa Women’s Nations League match against Germany at the Estadio Metropolitano on December 2 for the second leg.

The first leg of last Friday’s goalless first leg, in Kaiserslautern, was played by Bonmati for 77 minutes.

According to a statement from the Royal Spanish Football Federation, Bonmati was “diagnosed with a fracture in her left fibula” following tests by the medical services.

Bonmati’s return to Barcelona will allow her to begin her rehabilitation, which is a disappointing conclusion to a player’s otherwise excellent year.

She won the women’s ballon d’or three times, won the domestic triple with Barca, and advanced to the Euro 2025 final with Spain as the first player to do so.
